Michael K. Bachrach is the principal of the Law Office of Michael K. Bachrach, having begun his career as an associate at the Law Offices of Richard Ware Levitt. Mr. Bachrach's primary focus is criminal defense, but also practices general civil litigation. Mr. Bachrach practices in both Federal and State courts at all stages of trial and appeal.
Mr. Bachrach was born in Philadelphia and raised in New York. He received his B.A. from Sarah Lawrence College and his J.D. from the Benjamin N. Mr. Bachrach is admitted to practice in New York State and Washington D.C., as well as before the United States District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York, the Second Circuit Court of Appeals, and the United States Supreme Court.
Mr. Bachrach has extensive experience with complex criminal cases involving Federal and State charges, civil and criminal appeals, violent crimes, large-scale conspiracy charges, white collar crimes, drug charges, allegations of organized crime, racketeering, terrorism, and the defense of individuals facing the death penalty. Mr. Bachrach is a resolute advocate for the protection of clients' rights and interests. He handles a selective case load so he may give each case and each client the dedication and meticulous attention to detail they demand and deserve.
Mr. Bachrach is the President and a Member of the Board of Directors of the New York Criminal Bar Association (NYCBA). Mr. Bachrach also serves as Chair of the NYCBA's International Criminal Law Committee and is a member of the NYCBA's Internet Committee. Similarly, Mr. Bachrach is a member of the New York County Lawyers' Association (NYCLA), where he is a former Co-Chair of NYCLA's Committee on Foreign and International Law, a former Chair of NYCLA's United Nations Sub-Committee, and is a member of NYCLA's Criminal Justice Section.
Mr. Bachrach has lectured, taught workshops and continuing legal education classes, and chaired conferences on the subjects of Criminal Law, Ethics, Public International Law, Human Rights and International Criminal Law, both here in New York, across the United States, and abroad. Mr. Bachrach has represented the New York County Lawyers Association at the United Nations, having also represented Redress Trust during the United Nations Preparatory Committee meetings that negotiated and eventually established the permanent International Criminal Court.
From 2000-2004, Mr. Bachrach was the editor of the Second Circuit Criminal Law Update, an annually updated criminal law outline, and is currently co-author of the New York Criminal Bar Association's monthly newsletter. In 2008 Mr. Bachrach joined the faculty of the Bryan R. Shechmeister Death Penalty College at the Santa Clara University School of Law in Santa Clara, California, where he teaches other experienced attorneys how to defend a capital trial.
Mr. Bachrach has appeared as a legal analyst on CourtTV and been interviewed on NPR and the BBC. His cases have been reported on throughout this country and worldwide. Mr. Bachrach has been quoted or mentioned in every New York City newspaper, including, the New York Times, New York Newsday, New York Post, New York Daily News, the Wall Street Journal, and the New York Law Journal. His work has been recognized nationally in the Boston Globe, LA Times, Reuters, the Associated Press, CNN, and Fox News, and in nearly every major international news source, including, the Guardian (UK), Agence France-Presse (AFP), and Al Jazeera English, as well as smaller sources such as the Caribbean newspapers, Hard Beat News and Caribbean 360.
